Computer Use

By using a public Internet workstation at the Miami Public Library, you agree to the following guidelines:

Conditions of Use

All computer users must read and accept the library’s computer use policy.

Children under the age of 18 must have the Library Computer Usage Consent portion of their registration card signed by parent in the presence of library staff in order for their card to be accepted by system. The Miami Public Library assumes no responsibility for the use of the Internet by children. It is the responsibility of the user (or the parent, guardian, or caregiver) to determine what is appropriate.

Patron must use his/her own library card in order to access account. Fraudulent use of library card number may result in suspension of computer use for that patron or patrons.

U.S. copyright law (Title 17, U.S. Code) prohibits the unauthorized reproduction or distribution of copyrighted materials, except as permitted by the principles of “fair use.” Users may not copy or distribute electronic materials without the explicit permission of the copyright holder. Any responsibility for any consequences of copyright infringement lies with the user; the library expressly disclaims any liability or responsibility resulting from such use.

Patrons will not be permitted to access material that may be considered offensive to other patrons or to the library staff.

Persons using this equipment agree not to make any changes to setup or configuration or the software or hardware.

Misuse or abuse of this computer or Internet access will result in suspension of Internet access privileges and/or possible legal action.

More Information Regarding Use

Use of workstation is limited to 1 hour daily. Patrons who register in advance must monitor registration computer to determine when it is their turn. Patrons leaving computer unattended will forfeit time.

Computers will automatically shut off 15 minutes before library closing time.

Only one person may use computer at a time. No more than two people may be seated or standing at a computer workstation. Any disruption due to more than one person being at a computer will result in all persons at that computer being asked to leave.

Patrons must use headphones to listen to music or other sounds on the computer. If a patron does not have headphones, a set of ear buds may be purchased at the front desk.

Printing

There is a charge for printing. Color copies are $.25 each, and black and white copies are 10 each. Patrons must have money deposited in account before printing can be done. Minimum deposit is $1.00.
