High School Equivalency in Oklahoma

Oklahoma accepts two High School Equivalency tests: the GED and the HiSET. The two tests are similar in a lot of ways and ultimately the result is the same, a certificate of recognition for completing a high school equivalency exam.

GED: General Educational Development

  • Subject Areas: Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science, Mathematical Reasoning, and Social Studies
  • Cost: In Oklahoma, $34 per subject. In total, $136 (some fees may apply)
  • Retakes? You are allowed two retests per subject with testing service fees waived. Each retest is $20. Some states may waive their fees.
  • Computer or On Paper? The GED must be taken on a computer at a testing location.
  • Age Requirements: Must be 18 or older.

HiSET: High School Equivalency Test

  • Subject Areas: Language Arts- Reading, Language Arts- Writing, Science, Math, and Social Studies
  • Cost: In Oklahoma, the test is $17.50 ($10 for the test, $7.50 for an administrative fee) per subtest plus $10 scheduling fee for first time test takers. In total, $97.50
  • Retakes? You are allowed two retests per subject but will need to pay the administrative fee ($7.50) each time.
  • Computer or On Paper? The HiSET may be taken on a computer or on paper at a testing location.
  • Age Requirements: 16+. If you are under 18, you must complete a release form.

Both tests allow for accommodations for test takers with disabilities but arrangements need to be made prior to scheduling the test.

In the end, no matter which test you choose you will get the same result, a high school equivalency certificate and the key to a more successful future.
