Art in April

A girl coloring a picture.Fourth and fifth graders learned about Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Georgia O’Keefe, and Vincent Van Gogh at the Miami Public Library during our Art in April program.  After learning each artist, children were given the opportunity to create their own works of art.  They used tissue paper to create collages, painted flowers on tiles at the Clay Station, and made oil pastel renditions of Starry, Starry Night.  Three classes were held at the library and were taught by library staff and by Will Rogers Middle School art teacher Michelle Logan.  An additional class was held at the Clay Station and taught by their staff.  Art in April is a four-week program that the library offers to encourage children to learn more about artists and their works and to create art of their own.
