“I Went to a Garden Party…”
The Health Literacy Project Partners, Ottawa County Health Department, Northeastern Tribal Health Systems, OSU Extension Office, and Miami Public Library recently hosted a garden party at the Community Garden located on the grounds of the Ottawa County Health Department. Community members were invited to view the beds, examine future plans for expansion, and enjoy refreshments.
The garden currently has four raised beds – a bed of squash, zucchini and crooked neck squash, a bed with tomatoes, green peppers and jalapeno peppers, a bed with strawberries, and a bed with herbs, basil and mint. Future plans include children’s gardens such as a Pizza Garden and a Snacking Garden, and a teaching garden to be used in gardening classes taught by master gardeners.
This Health Literacy Project is funded through the Oklahoma Department of Libraries with funds from Library Services and Technology Act, a Federal source of library funding provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
