Overdue Materials

Patrons with overdue materials are notified two times. The first notification will be one week after the due date. A second notice is sent within four weeks after the due date. Accounts with materials 45 days overdue and owing $50.00 or more in charges for those materials are turned over for collection after the patron is notified a third time. A $10.00 processing fee plus any overdue fines are added to any account submitted for collection.

State law makes theft or destruction of library materials a crime. Any person shall be guilty, upon conviction, of library theft who willfully:

  1. Removes or attempts to remove any library materials from the premises of a library facility without authority;
  2. Mutilates, destroys, alters, or otherwise damages, in whole or in part, any library materials;
  3. Fails to return any library materials which have been lent to said person by the library facility within seven days after demand has been made for the return of the materials.

Punishment for conviction of library theft shall be restitution and/or a fine of up to $10,000. (21 O.S. Sec. 1739, 1981, as amended)

Fines are $.10 per day per item, up to a maximum of $5.00 per item, except for Hotspots. The fine for overdue Hotspots is $5.00 per day. Patrons with fines of $2.00 or more will have borrowing and computer privileges suspended until the debt is paid. In addition, families (or a group of individuals living at the same address) with an outstanding balance of $2.00 or more will have all cards with that address suspended until the debt is paid.

 

Lost Materials

Any materials lost or damaged beyond repair must be paid for at replacement and processing costs. If no cover price is available, lost children's and teen paperbacks cost $8.00, and all other mass market paperbacks $10.00. Lost magazines cost $6.00. Hardcover books and media (e.g., DVD, Book on CD) sets will be assessed at replacement cost (including processing). Patrons with debt outstanding on lost or damaged books will have borrowing and computer privileges suspended until the debt is paid.
