📦 Celebrate Boxing Day!🎁 Boxing Day, observed on December 26th, has its origins in the United Kingdom as a day for giving to those in need and appreciating the blessings of the Christmas season. Traditionally, it was a day when employers would give gifts, known as "Christmas boxes," to their servants and tradespeople as a token of gratitude. In modern times, Boxing Day is associated with shopping sales and sporting events, but it still holds a spirit of generosity and community. Exploring the history of Boxing Day provides insight into its evolution and the cultural significance it holds today. To dive deeper into the traditions of Boxing Day, patrons can find a wealth of information through books and online resources. https://miamipl.okpls.org #HolidaysAroundTheWorld #CulturalCelebrations #BoxingDay #MiamiPL #MoreThanYourGrandmasLibrary #OttawaCountyOK
⬛🟩🟥Happy Kwanzaa! 🟥🟩⬛ Kwanzaa is celebrated from December 26 to January 1 and emphasizes the importance of community, family, and cultural heritage. The holiday is rooted in African traditions and is centered around seven core principles known as the Nguzo Saba, which are Unity, Self-Determination, Collective Work and Responsibility, Cooperative Economics, Purpose, Creativity, and Faith. Kwanzaa is symbolized by several colors and items. The three colors of Kwanzaa are black, red, and green: black represents the people, red symbolizes their struggles, and green stands for hope and the future. A key symbol is the kinara, a candle holder that holds seven candles—one for each of the principles. During the celebration, families light a candle each night, reflecting on each principle and its significance in their lives. Join us at the Miami Public Library to explore books and resources that delve deeper into these traditions. Let's come together to learn, share, and grow! #Kwanzaa #CulturalCelebration #MiamiPL #HolidaysAroundTheWorld #OttawaCountyOK #MoreThanYourGrandmasLibrary
